GETTYSBURG REGIONAL – SOMETHING DIFFERENT

LATE BREAKING NEWS ABOUT THE GETTYSBURG REGIONAL

--NEW EVENT ADDED--

Ladies, ever wondered what Civil War era women had under those big, billowing skirts?  You can find out by attending an1860s Fashion Show followed by a Ladies Tea on Saturday afternoon, May 8th at the Wyndham Hotel (host Hotel).  This light hearted interactive event looks at and under clothing worn by women during the period of the Civil War; from head to toe and inside and out.

This event is sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter and NCRS at no charge to all ladies registered for the meet.  If you would like to attend this fun time please sign up for at the registration area when you arrive at the meet, since advance registration is required.

--JUDGES TAKE NOTE--

A judging school has been added to the schedule for Thursday May 6th at 5:00 pm.  This 1 point school will be held in the Wyndham Hotel (host hotel) on a topic of interest to all judges who are encouraged to attend!

Located in the gentle rolling countryside of Pennsylvania, Gettysburg’s history is abundant.  Dating back to the 1700’s, the town came to prominence when the armies of the North and South met there in June 30, 1863.  The resulting battle began on July 1st and was the bloodiest conflict ever fought in North America.  Today Gettysburg is alive with activities and attractions that pay homage to the great sacrifices of those brave men of both sides.

Some of the major Gettysburg highlights are:

  • Gettysburg National Military Park including the battlefield – We have arranged for special 2 ¼ hour tours in historic Yellowstone Park buses that will pick you up and return you to the host hotel.  Be sure to sign up one of them on our registration form.
  • Soldier’s National Cemetery and site of President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address
  • David Wills House where President Lincoln spent the night and finished the Gettysburg Address
  • Ghost tours after dinner at one of the many popular restaurants, several which still bear scars of the battle
  • President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Gettysburg farm giving a glimpse of his modest life style
  • Boyd’s Bears Country, headquarters of the popular collectible
  • Shopping at the plentiful antique shops, boutiques and the outlet mall

For more information on these and other Gettysburg attractions go to www.gettysburgtravel.com and www.gettysbg.com.

Moderately priced trolley service is available between the Wyndham Gettysburg, downtown Gettysburg and major attractions.

The awards presentation and dinner will be held in the Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center and Museum.  This will not be your usual awards banquet, instead it will be “A Night at the Museum” providing those attending with an opportunity to experience full unrestricted access to all museum exhibits, the film “A New Birth of Freedom”, and the freshly restored and preserved 100+ year old “Battle of Gettysburg” cyclorama.  Of course, the night also includes the awards ceremony and a Civil War themed dinner.  More information about the Visitor Center and Museum can be found at www.gettysburgfoundation.org

Our host hotel and judging site is the Wyndham Gettysburg located in a 100 acre shopping, dining and entertainment complex at the intersection of US 15 and US 30 two miles northeast of downtown Gettysburg.  To make reservations call 1.717.339.0020 and be certain to ask for the NCRS group rate of $124.00 per night.  Be sure to make your reservations early as the room block expires April 15, 2010.  Any attendees wishing to arrive in Gettysburg early or stay after the regional meet to take advantage of the local attractions will be accommodated by the Wyndham Gettysburg at the group rate.  Visit www.wyndhamgettysburg.com for complete info about the hotel.
